What do they do? How much time's involved?


A Quick Guide to RPSTA Roles!

Assembly Reps
1 for every 12 teachers at a school or portion thereof, and 3 reps for subs
Represent school at monthly meetings & report back to school’s teachers
Give direction & ideas to RPSTA Councillors & Executive

Councillors
Members elected yearly (number of councillors depends on size of school division) , 1 position held for Substitute teachers
Attend RPSTA Mini-Council and help come up with resolutions. (Please note that any individual teacher can also submit resolutions! It does not need to come from the RPSTA!)
Attend Fall and Spring STF Council in Saskatoon to represent RPSTA
Go to local or Saskatoon meetings for emergent issues (Bargaining, etc.)

Executive Members
Executive consists of President, VP, and 8 Executive Councillors -- All are elected for period of 2 years
Meet regularly with Board Director & Superintendents to express teachers’ needs
Meet at least once a month to determine RPSTA priorities, go over teacher concerns, etc.
Meet with STF to go over needs and wants, offer direction
Responsible for RPSTA’s finances
Go to local or Saskatoon meetings for emergent issues (Bargaining, etc.)
Attend Fall & Spring STF Council in Saskatoon to represent the RPSTA
Attend RPSTA Mini-Council & help with resolutions to bring to the STF


     President
     Responsible for day-to-day operations of RPSTA
     Lots of time handling individual concerns (e-mail, phone, in person)
     Official spokesperson for RPSTA when dealing with other organizations
     Communicates and liaisons with STF staff
     Promotes RPSTA through school visits, etc.
     Co-ordinates juice, water & cookies for Assembly Meetings 

     Vice-President
     Must be prepared to assume ALL duties of President in event President cannot do so
     With President, sometimes goes to meetings & events to share the RPSTA’s views with stakeholders, division Admin, etc.
     Signing authority of financial transactions along with President and Treasurer

Committee Members
Anyone can join a committee! Some of the better known committees are LINC
(Negotiation team for local contract,) Convention Planning Committee, Elections Committee,
Calendar Committee, Resolutions Committee… The list goes on. Please talk to any Exec Member
if you’re interested, or if you have spare time and want to know where you could best help!
